Iran's former envoy to Mexico Mohammad-Hassan Ghadiri-Abyaneh says the next US president could be a member of the Occupy Wall Street movement instead of a Republican or Democrat.
“Perhaps in the next [presidential] elections [in the US] neither one of the current American parties will enter the White House… and the [winner will be an anti-] Wall Street candidate,” IRNA quoted Hassan Ghadiri-Abyaneh as saying in Friday.
The 'Occupy' movement, which has now entered its sixth week, emerged after a group of people on September 17 gathered in New York's financial district under the motto of 'Occupy Wall Street,' protesting corporatism, poverty and social inequality in the US.
US police resorted to violent methods such as the use of tear gas and sound grenades to crackdown on the protests.
Ghadiri-Abyaneh said that a few stadiums in the US have been prepared for use as possible prisons for protesters and added, “If (the US officials) were really advocates of humane [behavior] they would have defended the Palestinian and Bahraini nations.”
He stressed that the Occupy movement, which has now spread to several major US cities and other countries, seeks the collapse of capitalism.
The former Iranian diplomat added that as the 1 percent rich in the US are Zionists, the Occupy Movement will turn into an anti-Zionist campaign and flourish.
“This [protest] movement in the US can be considered a movement towards embracing Islam,” Ghadiri-Abyaneh said
He said that after the fall of the former Soviet Union, the world moved toward multipolarity and analysts believed that Iran is the leader of the Islamic civilization.
The former envoy added that the developments in Muslim countries “are in reality heralding the formation of the Islamic civilization” and in the end the “US will lose its unipolar status” in the world.
